H2.B & Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria at H2 CityTour Erlangen in the context of the WOCHE DES WASSERSTOFFS SÜD #WDWS2022 // Opening of the LOHC hydrogen filling station in Erlangen

Erlangen – As part of the WOCHE DES WASSERSTOFFS SÜD (“WEEK OF HYDROGEN SOUTH”) #WDWS2022, the “H2 CityTour Erlangen: Everything revolves around H2” took place on Saturday, July 2. Interested citizens could learn more about the topic of hydrogen with a focus on mobility and meet hydrogen actors (from the region) at three action sites in Erlangen.

After the festive opening of the H2 CityTour by Dr. Florian Janik, Mayor of the City of Erlangen and Thorsten Glauber, Bavarian State Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection (representing Economics Minister Aiwanger), an informative and diverse stage program was offered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the town hall square in Erlangen.
The Hydrogen Center Bavaria (H2.B) had organised this together with the HYDROGEN DIALOGUE of NürnbergMesse and in cooperation with H2 MOBILITY Germany.

H2.B board member Prof. Wasserscheid discussed the topic “Innovation country Germany – How can we manage the energy transition with hydrogen technologies?” with Elena Hof (Program and Team Leader National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Program (NIP) of NOW GmbH) and moderator Johanna Tissot as well as the audience.
At the exhibitor talk “From Bavaria for Bavaria: Together for Bavaria’s hydrogen future”, Stefan Dürr (Head of Technology and Innovation, H2.B), Simon Reichenwallner (Network Manager, ENERGIEregion Nürnberg e.V.) and Robin Puchert (Hydrogen Multiplier, State Agency for Energy and Climate Protection/ LENK) provided insightful information.

Alliance partners from the Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria were also on stage: H2 players from Erlangen (including Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies GmbH, Siemens Energy Global GmbH & Co. KG) and start-ups (BtX Energy GmbH, HiTES Holding GmbH, Green H2 GmbH, ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions GmbH, ARTHUR BUS GmbH) presented their innovative H2 solutions.

In the HYDROGEN DIALOGUE beer garden, hydrogen stakeholders had a lively exchange with each other and with the visitors, while the H2.B team provided information on hydrogen in and for Bavaria at the information booth. The hydrogen meeting point Rathausplatz invited visitors to the H2 vehicle exhibition and to test drives.

In addition, the LOHC-based hydrogen filling station by H2 MOBILITY Germany, its shareholder Linde and its partners Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies and Siemens Energy was festively opened in Erlangen by Bavarian Environment Minister Glauber and MdB Müller. The filling station has now started optimization operations and offers hydrogen (H2) at two pressure levels (350 bar and 700 bar). The green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis and is bound in liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC).

Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Hubert Aiwanger: “The success of Bavarian energy research is coming to fruition today with the opening of the world’s first hydrogen filling station to use the LOHC technology we are promoting, and is setting standards for the upcoming market ramp-up. Thanks to LOHC technology, hydrogen can now easily be stored on site in substantial quantities and can also be used again. With this, we have achieved a breakthrough.”

The network of hydrogen filling stations is thus continuing to grow. There are now 95 H2 stations in Germany, 21 of which are in Bavaria. In addition to Nuremberg, Fürth and Berg bei Hof and Erlangen, there are now a total of eight hydrogen filling station locations in the region.

The Bavarian mobility start-up and Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria partner ARTHUR BUS will additionally showcase its hydrogen bus at the H2 refueling station in Erlangen.

A hop-on/hop-off hydrogen bus connected the three event locations Rathausplatz, the H2 filling station and the Südgelände, where the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nuremberg for Renewable Energies and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology (IISB) offered a colorful program with exhibits, information booths, lectures and hands-on activities related to hydrogen.
