“Building a European Hydrogen Grid for a Greener Future” Delegation Trip to Belgium and the Netherlands Led by Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger

Belgium/Netherlands – From November 19 to 22, a Bavarian delegation of representatives from business, academia, and politics, led by Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger, traveled to Belgium and the Netherlands. Belgium is positioning itself as a future hub for hydrogen imports into Europe and as a transit country for further transport within the continent. The Netherlands has ambitious plans to establish itself as Europe’s green hydrogen center and is already the second-largest hydrogen producer in Europe.

During the trip, the delegation met with high-ranking representatives of both countries in Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Alkmaar. Visits to various companies and networking events provided valuable opportunities to forge connections and exchange knowledge, particularly on the topic of hydrogen transport infrastructure.

In Brussels, the participants attended the European Hydrogen Week, one of Europe’s most important hydrogen events. Among other activities, they had the opportunity to network at the Bavarian Pavilion, a shared Bavarian exhibition booth organized by Bayern International in collaboration with H2.B.

Dr. Fabian Pfaffenberger (Managing Director, H2.B) participated in the trip. He emphasized:
“Belgium and the Netherlands are positioning themselves as key hubs for the large-scale import of hydrogen and ammonia into Central Europe. For Bavaria, as an import-dependent region, it is vital to secure supply through diverse import routes. Visiting the ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam was therefore crucial for gaining insights into the current status of ambitious hydrogen projects in both countries and for connecting with key stakeholders.”
