In Memory of Hubert Aiwanger
H2.B Honors a Dedicated Pioneer of the Hydrogen Economy and Key Founder of the Center
Nuremberg, November 5, 2026 – The Hydrogen Center Bavaria (H2.B) mourns the unexpected passing of Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and Deputy Minister President. With his passing, the hydrogen economy loses one of its most dedicated political advocates and a key driving force behind the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy.
For many years, Hubert Aiwanger championed the development of a strong hydrogen economy and the ramp-up of hydrogen technologies with passion, perseverance, and great personal commitment like few others. His resolute advocacy for hydrogen as a central building block of a sustainable energy system has provided important impetus far beyond Bavaria and will continue to have an impact long after his passing.
Hubert Aiwanger was closely linked with the Hydrogen Center Bavaria from the very beginning. As one of the key initiators, he helped establish the H2.B and the Bavarian Hydrogen Alliance in 2019 and has accompanied their development ever since with great interest and continuous support.
Dr. Fabian Pfaffenberger, Managing Director of the Hydrogen Center Bavaria (H2.B): “Hubert Aiwanger was a tireless champion of the hydrogen economy. He believed in hydrogen’s potential from the very beginning and worked with extraordinary conviction and drive to advance its growth. For us at H2.B, he was an important pioneer and supporter from the very start. In our many personal encounters, I repeatedly witnessed the energy, enthusiasm, and determination with which he pursued his goals. We are deeply saddened by his sudden passing.”
